A Letter From Our Founder

 I’ll never forget the first lesson I learned in underwriting training – We are here to provide protection for individuals, their families, and those grieving them after the insured has passed. If you’ve ever delivered a claim check, you understand what this truly means.

I have been back on the front lines of insurance for one year and, in so many ways, I’m amazed at the rapid changes that have taken place in our industry. Nostalgia for the 90’s might be “in right now,” but I’m relieved we no longer worry about imaging systems going down every other day and the resulting mad scrambles during triple X product changes as we tried to catch up.  In the early 2000’s, I saw “the craziest idea I ever heard of” also known as medical summaries move from an obscure and untested proposition to a revolutionary solution. Today, medical summaries are high-tech explanations generated by AI, feeding digital engines, and making decisions on impaired risk cases. It’s amazing and I can’t wait to see where we go next. 

And yet, with all of the innovation before us today, sometimes we lose sight of that first lesson. Of course, it’s great to cut costs and move faster. What’s better? Providing protection and peace of mind. It’s being able to tell an agent that while an applicant was initially declined due to a mortality score generated by non-traditional data sources that, by going through the traditional underwriting process, we’ve received an offer better than expected. It’s those moments when the code generated says the applicant has COPD but, through our diligence, we find out it’s just seasonal allergies. We have progressed immensely and I’m proud to have played a role in helping our industry make some of these rapid changes. It’s what has led me to this moment.
